Polish language proofreading for your thesis

A Polish text written by a Ukrainian speaker often gives itself away through calques and unusual word order. We correct grammar, style and terminology to match Polish academic writing. The content and structure stay yours.

Polish proofreading for a thesis written by a non-native speaker

Polish proofreading for a thesis is narrower than general editing, and more specialised. The aim is a text that reads as if it had been written in Polish from the start: correct cases and agreement, Polish punctuation, which requires a comma before conjunctions such as “że” and “który”, and vocabulary that matches Polish academic usage rather than a dictionary equivalent.

For Ukrainian and Russian speakers the typical problems are predictable: false friends whose meaning differs slightly in Polish, word order carried over from the first language, and prepositions and cases that follow Ukrainian patterns. A Polish reader understands such sentences but notices them, and a promotor may too.

Proofreading works best at the end, once the content has been accepted. Students writing in Polish for the first time often send the first chapter early instead: the explanations of recurring mistakes then help with every chapter that follows.

Polish typography is part of the job: quotation marks in the form „…”, no full stop after headings, and abbreviations such as “r.” and “w.” used correctly in dates. The price depends on length and on how much correction a sample of your text shows.

What is included

  • Grammar, cases and agreement

Who it is for

  • You write in Polish but are not sure of your grammar

  • The text was translated from Ukrainian and sounds unnatural
  • You want to submit your thesis without comments on the language

How we work

Step 1

Send a sample

2–3 pages, so that we can assess the level and give you a price.

Step 2

We correct the text

We edit the language in track changes and explain typical mistakes.

Step 3

You accept the changes

You review the edits and accept the ones you agree with. We correct long texts in parts, so you can see the result and pay in stages.

Questions and answers

Who does the proofreading?

An editor with fluent academic Polish who knows your field. We will tell you who will work on your text before payment.

Do you change the content?

No, only the language. If the meaning of a sentence is unclear, we leave a comment with a question rather than guess.

Will this help with my oral defence?

Partly: you will see your typical mistakes. For the defence itself, there is separate preparation with answers to questions in Polish.
