Editing and formatting

Proofreading and editing your thesis

You wrote the text yourself, but it is hard to read, or your supervisor (promotor) writes “style”. We edit the logic, language and academic register without replacing your ideas. Every change is visible in track changes.

Thesis proofreading or editing: which one does your text need?

A promotor’s comment such as “styl” or “język” rarely says what is wrong. In most theses it comes down to a few patterns: paragraphs that repeat each other, sentences that run to five lines, terms that change from chapter to chapter and an informal tone that slips into academic prose. Spelling and punctuation are usually the smaller part of the problem.

Thesis editing works on the text you wrote. We keep your structure and your argument and change how they read, so that a chapter written in October and one written in March sound like the same author. Where an edit changes emphasis rather than just wording, we explain it in a comment.

This service covers whatever language your thesis is written in, with an editor who works in that language. For a thesis in Polish written by a non-native speaker, the separate Polish proofreading service goes further on grammar and calques. If you need both, editing comes first and proofreading last.

The price starts at 95 € and depends on length and on how much work the text needs, which is why we look at a few pages first. Long theses are edited chapter by chapter, which also lets you apply what you learn from the comments on one chapter to the next.

How we work

Step 1

Send a sample

From it we assess how much editing is needed and give you an exact price.

Step 2

We edit the text

We edit in track changes and explain tricky points in comments.

Step 3

You accept the changes

You accept or reject each edit yourself, so the text stays yours. We edit long texts in parts, each paid for when it is finished.

Questions and answers

What’s the difference between proofreading and editing?

Proofreading covers errors, punctuation and typos. Editing also covers logic, style and sentence structure. We will tell you what your text needs based on a sample.

Will you rewrite the weak parts?

We flag them and suggest options. We discuss major content changes with you, because it is your thesis and you defend it.

Can you edit a text in Polish?

Yes, there is a separate Polish proofreading service with a native speaker of academic Polish. For other languages, we match an editor to the language of your thesis.
