Editing and formatting

Thesis formatting check against your guidelines

Theses are returned not only for their content but also for indents, numbering or incorrect source entries. We check and correct the formatting of the whole thesis according to your department’s guidelines. We do not touch the content.

How a thesis formatting check works at Polish universities

Polish departments publish their own formatting guidelines, usually titled “wytyczne” or “zasady redakcji pracy dyplomowej”, and they differ even between faculties of the same university. One wants 2.5 cm margins and Times New Roman 12 pt, another a wider binding margin and footnotes in 10 pt. A formatting check compares your file with your department’s document, not with a generic standard.

We work through the thesis in a fixed order: page setup, heading styles and numbering, the table of contents, captions above or below tables and figures as the guidelines say, footnotes or in-text citations, the bibliography, and finally the title page and declarations (oświadczenia). Formatting is applied through Word styles, so it stays consistent if you edit the text again later.

The best moment for the check is after your promotor has accepted the content and before the file goes into APD. At many universities the uploaded version is the one checked in JSA and archived, so later changes may mean repeating the procedure. Check your faculty’s rules on this.

Some points need your decision rather than ours, such as a list of abbreviations the guidelines describe only vaguely, or an appendix your promotor may not want. We return those as questions. If your references need more than consistent formatting, for example missing years or citations without a matching entry, the bibliography service covers that in more depth.

What is included

  • Margins, fonts, line spacing and indents
  • Numbering of pages, chapters and subsections
  • Automatic table of contents that matches the headings
  • Captions and numbering of tables and figures
  • Bibliography and citations in one consistent style
  • Title page and mandatory declarations following the template
  • Appendices, lists of abbreviations and tables as required

Who it is for

  • The text is ready, but the formatting is not
  • The guidelines are long and written in Polish
  • Your thesis was returned because of formatting
  • Different people wrote different parts, and they look inconsistent

How we work

Step 1

Send the file and guidelines

Your thesis in Word, the department’s guidelines and any separate requirements from your supervisor (promotor). First we check that the file opens without layout shifts in your version of Word.

Step 2

We correct the formatting

We go through the thesis with a checklist based on the guidelines, from the title page to the appendices.

Step 3

You get the file

The formatted thesis and a list of points that need your decision.

Questions and answers

Do you change the text?

No, only the formatting. If we spot a content issue, such as a missing source, we flag it in a comment. Content changes are a separate service.

What if there are no guidelines?

Then we follow your university’s standard requirements or sample theses from your department. The requirements your promotor gives you have the final word.

Is the formatting check included in packages?

Yes, in “Standard” (855 €) and “Premium” (1 045 €). It is not included in the base thesis price.
