Theses and term papers

Choosing and wording your thesis topic

A weak topic shows up in month three, when sources or data run short. We suggest several options that fit your field and your supervisor’s (promotor’s) research area, and give an honest assessment of each. You and your promotor make the final decision.

How to choose a thesis topic you can actually research in time

Choosing a thesis topic in Poland usually happens under time pressure. The department sets a date for submitting topics, often in the semester before the thesis year, and many promotors expect students to arrive with a proposal rather than ask for one. A topic that sounds good in that conversation can still fail later if the sources are thin or the data cannot be obtained.

When we help with topic selection, each option is checked on three points: whether there is enough academic literature you can access in Polish or English, whether the research part fits your time and contacts, and whether the topic falls within your promotor’s research area.

Wording matters as much as the idea. A topic that names its material, place and period, such as one industry in one region over a few years, is easier to approve and easier to research than a broad title. We word the options in the language of your thesis, and also in Polish where the department records topics in Polish.

The decision stays with you and your promotor. You take the options to the meeting, and if the promotor reshapes one of them, send us the new version: a changed topic affects the outline, so it is worth adjusting both at once. The price depends on your field and how many options you need, and we give it in chat before starting.

Questions and answers

Do you guarantee my promotor will approve the topic?

No, that is the decision of your promotor and department. We suggest topics with available sources and a realistic scope. This improves your chances of a productive conversation, but does not replace it.

Can I change the wording of an already approved topic?

At most universities this is possible through a written request, but your department sets the procedure. We will help you word the new title; check the procedure with the dean’s office.

What comes after choosing a topic?

You can get a free thesis outline in 24–48 hours. It shows how the topic breaks down into chapters.
