Thesis defence in Poland: how the obrona works and how to prepare
Who sits on the committee, what the egzamin dyplomowy involves, what presentation you need, common questions and how to prepare for your obrona in Poland.
Defence
At many Polish universities, the defence is combined with an egzamin dyplomowy (diploma exam): questions from a list covering the whole programme. We turn that list into compact, structured answers. You do the learning and answering; we help you do it systematically.
Whether a Polish university holds a separate diploma exam depends on its regulations. Where it does, students usually receive a list of zagadnienia covering the whole programme, sometimes dozens of items, and during the exam the committee draws or chooses a few of them. The list is often published well in advance, but revision usually coincides with the final thesis deadlines.
Diploma exam preparation turns that list into answers you can actually learn. Each answer follows the same shape, kept short enough to say in a few minutes. Learning many answers that share one structure is much easier than learning them in different formats, and the structure also helps you think on your feet when a question is worded differently from the list.
Terminology carries a lot of weight in an oral exam. Each answer uses the key terms in the exam language and defines them the way your programme’s course materials do, because examiners often listen for the definitions taught in their own lectures.
A mock oral exam at the end shows where answers are still too long or too vague. It is the closest you can get to the real format without the stakes, and for many students it is the first time they hear themselves answer aloud in the exam language.

No. At some universities the obrona covers only the thesis; at others there are also 2–3 questions from the list. The format is set by your university’s regulations.
Yes. Students often take the hardest sections and prepare the rest themselves. The price depends on the number of questions.
In the exam language. If you find it easier to understand a topic in Ukrainian first, we can add a short comment in your native language.
